PGE and Sinopec Star Form Strategic Partnership to Advance Geothermal Energy Development

PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE), which is part of Subholding Power & New Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) PT Pertamina (Persero), and Sinopec Star Co, Ltd. (Sinopec Star), a subsidiary of China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec Group) collaborate in the development and utilization of geothermal energy.

The cooperation agreement that has been signed by both parties is in the context of developing geothermal energy both directly and indirectly, as well as opportunities in developing green hydrogen in Indonesia, China, and other potential global markets. Sinopec Star has advantages in utilizing medium and low temperature geothermal for district heating and has developed a hydrogen plant. Meanwhile, PGE has quite a long experience in utilizing high temperature geothermal for electricity generation in Indonesia. The competitive advantages of both parties will be combined so that they can take opportunities in every utilization of cascading energy and also the development of beyond energy.

In addition, the two companies will also exchange technical expertise, best practices, and operational insights to improve aspects of geothermal engineering and geothermal technology.

PGE President Director Julfi Hadi emphasized, "This collaboration is in line with PGE's strategy to maximize geothermal potential and contribute to the clean energy transition in Indonesia. By leveraging our expertise, we aim to accelerate development and drive innovation in the geothermal sector."

Sinopec Star President Fan Chuanhong said, "Geothermal energy is a key pillar of Sinopec Star's renewable energy portfolio. This partnership allows us to share expertise, advance technology, and contribute to the development of sustainable energy in Indonesia and other countries."

The signing ceremony, held at Sinopec Star's headquarters in Beijing, marked the commitment of both companies to advance geothermal energy as a key driver of the global energy transition.
